I think however, it was the setting and locations of the roads, and specifically the rapidly snaking curved sections, that made the big difference. Perched on the edge of the fjord walls, these roads are vertically flanked by two precipices, one up to the cliff above, the other down to the water below. Their location is totally dictated by the geology, the engineers had no route decisions to make.
