I'd like to share a "Rock N Ride" with you that we went on recently.
West Houston to Waller, Harleys and Horses. We met at The Dam Ice House, 1718 S. Highway 6, on Sunday morning. Our bikes went south on Highway 6 to FM-1093; then west to FM-362 in Fulshear. The ride north on FM-362 has lots of great curves, is fun to ride, and has some great country scenery as you go north through Brookshire and Waller to US -290. We turned east on US-290 to FM-2920; and north on FM-2920 and down a bit to a new ice house, Harleys and Horses, 28502 FM-2920. This Waller ice house has friendly staff and is quite roomy. Live music is featured every Friday and Saturday evening. We hated to leave, but we had our destination in mind.
Benefit for Bill at Acadia Bar. We went on to a benefit at a well known rock club in the Champion's area called Acadia Bar, 3939 FM 1960 West. If you're ever in the area, say hi to the manager Eddie, he's a good guy! Acadia was sponsoring a benefit for a friend, Bill, who played with The Fab Five. He recently suffered a stroke and is struggling to regain the quality of life that he once had. It's always wonderful to see musicians, much like bikers, come together for one of their own in time of need. I've gone to several of these musician benefits. It's amazing how dynamic and talented the bands are. They donate their show time to help one of their brothers in need.
Bands at Bill's Benefit. The first band we saw was Strangebrew. Led by Bobby and his powerful vocals, band members Jeff, Chuck, Pat, Charles and "The Reverend" Johnny, have a unique sound and approach to classic rock. They are always a treat to see and are consistently crowd pleasing. After the auction, Bill, the benefactor, then took the stage for a very moving moment, as all of his friends, family, and fellow musicians, gave him a standing ovation This is obviously a man that is loved and cared for by his peers. The rest of the day was filled with B-B-Q and music, featuring such talented bands as Acoustic Villians, the Chromatics, and the Fab Five (the Beatles tribute band that Bill belongs to). All in all, this was an awesome tribute to a man, whom everyone described as a "legend". Afterwards, it was homeward bound to our side of town to The Dam Ice House for the end of a great Sunday …
