For those who like to ride and have fun on the west side, it's a weekly tradition among the motorcyclists to ride with plans to stop along the way and gathering at various locations to enjoy some of the very best bands that Houston and the surrounding areas offer.
For more than two years e-mail has been my mode of communication to share with you the news on upcoming rides, benefits, special events, rallies and bands. This column will begin my first venture into print to do a calendar of events.

"Big Steve" decided to change all that when he tore out the grocery store, put in garage doors, opened the place as an ice house and welcomed the biker population. The only thing I missed when that happened was the breakfast sandwich!
Two owners later, the "Line" or more officially, The County Line Bar & Grill, has been morphing into a different type cf venue but has remained a biker hang out.
Since the new owners, Fred Lasseter and family, took over a yearand-a-half ago, the entire place has been remodeled to provide much more room than it did before. Out back a huge covered patio now makes it possible and even pleasant to enjoy the outdoors even in rainy or hot weather and a separate bar (from the original) is available for big events.
A mural covers the back wall depicting a rider on an adventure. Look carefully at the bottles painted in the corner to learn the names of some of the regulars.
Music is heard almost constantly, live bands on most weekends, karaoke on Friday nights and some good jammin' and open mike time on Sundays afternoons. So if you are looking for a place to try your skills stop in then.
They reopened the kitchen (and included air conditioning for summer and heat for winter!) with Trina and Alan at the grill serving up one of the best hamburgers in town.
Had a long day in the saddle? This is a great place to take a break before heading out again or going home.

It would never occur to them that they might be seeing an honest, law-abiding, productive member of society.
Most bikers I talk to don't really mind seeing this type of response from "normal" society. Matter of fact, if the truth were known, we even get a kick out of their reactions.
That's part of the whole aura of being a real biker – to simply not care whether those people understand us, like us or accept us.
So, the next time you see some man or woman show their distaste as soon as they see you, just remember – tomorrow night you are going out with their daughter!

Mike Jones has ridden for over 35 years so he understands how riders feel about their bikes. He knows that they want their bikes back quickly when they need basic services such as oil changes or tire installation and they want it done right the first time.
A couple of years back Mike decided to open a motorcycle repair shop to specialize in V-Twin service and repairs. He had the audacity to think he could compete successfully against the factory dealers, reminiscent of a David versus Goliath! But succeed he did and he has kept at it ever since. And he does the work while you wait whenever possible because he does understand.
Trained at the WYOTECH/AMI motorcycle service school in Florida, Mike worked for a while at the Daytona H-D dealership before heading home to Houston.
Mike won't shortcut service or send a customer out with an incomplete repair job, which could be dangerous to the rider. This is a service-oriented shop that depends on word-of-mouth advertising. His philosophy of "quality first" has served him well with customers referring their friends helping to build his business.
Mike's goal is to be the largest after-market dealer in Houston. Not a simple task, but after watching his rapid SUCCess for several years, we believe that someday he is going to reach his goal.

Recently I had an opportunity to ride a Texas Chopper from the American Ironhorse Motorcycle Co.

The American IronHorse Motorcycle Company describes their motorcycles as "The bikes that own the road" and I was beginning to understand the truth in that. This was an awesome ride. "Quick" doesn't begin to describe this bike and the word "Responsive" is totally inadequate. "Fast" is descriptive but bikes can be fast and not be fun to ride.
The bike was one that you could take directly "from the Showroom to the Bike Show" and probably walk away with a trophy!
IAONHORSE MOTORCYCLES Chrome? You want to talk about chrome? The hardest thing about owning one of these bikes would be that there is so little left that you could do to it. The philosophy seems to be "if you can't custom paint it, chrome it".
My ride back into the rally showed how people were awed by the Texas Chopper. Repeatedly, people stopped me to ask about the bike and to comment on it.
One thing that does come standard with this bike is a great big smile on the rider's face.
