Ride Around Texas with the staff from Lone Star Biker.
The staff of Lone Star Biker had planned a 3,000-mile Ride-Around-Texas trip this past October and had invited our readers to join us. Due to a medical emergency we had to cancel this trip at the last minute. This ride, The Great RAT (Ride Around Texas), has been rescheduled for May 13th to May 22nd.
Whatever brand of bike you ride you are welcome to join us. We only request that all riders observe basic safety precautions and not ride in any manner that is dangerous to the other riders.
The ride will depart Houston on Friday, May 13th at 8 am from Gilberts County Line Ice House and will return on Sunday, May 22nd. The trip will take a counter-clockwise route following the entire perimeter of Texas while staying as close inside the State Line as possible.
Just for "bragging rights" we will include a short jog over the line into Louisiana, a bump into the edge of Arkansas, a short loop into Oklahoma and a zigzag into New Mexico near the Guadalupe Mountains. "Hey, I rode 5 states in 10 days . . . "
The goal is to get a lot of photos and travel information for future editions of Lone Star Biker. The total trip will be approximately 3200 miles and most days will be only about 300 miles. This is not an "iron butt" marathon but a chance to get out and savor the Great State of Texas.
This is not a tour; you don't pay to ride with us. You are responsible for your own expenses and we would like for all riders to chip in to cover the cost of the chase vehicle. On a trip of this length it is comforting to know there is a truck and a bike trailer following you in case of trouble.
Information will be provided on the recommended hotels for each day's destination. Riders are free to book a room, pick another hotel or maybe even camp. Riders may ride at their own pace and then get together with the group each evening.
Join us for the full ride or ride along for just a portion of it. If you can't ride with us but just want to "hang" with the group when we come through your area you are welcome to do that. You might want to be our "guide" at the overnight stops to help us hook up with the local biker community.
This trip is about meeting new people, seeing new places and discovering the Great State of Texas.
Riders must give us permission to use their name, or road name, and photo in future copies of the Lone Star Biker. We also request that you share any photos you take with us and grant us permission to print them or use them on our website. You will get full photo credit in the Lone Star Biker for any of your photos published.
