The Asylum
“Washington, DC.”
The name brings up images of Presidents and limosines, Congressmen, Stately buildings, power brokers, lobbyists, beautiful women and cherry blossoms along the Potomac. What you don’t think of are bikers hanging out at their favorite watering hole doing the same things that bikers do all across the world.
From the street, Washington’s “Asylum” looks just like any of hundreds of other biker hangouts in Anytown, USA. The name is so fitting for Washington, whether you think of “Asylum” as a place to get away from it all as in “political asylum” or “Asylum” in the more normal sense of an “insane asylum”. Knowing bikers as I do, I believe that the more traditonal “insane” moniker is probably the best fit. Especially since their website is full of references to “shock treatments”, “inmates”, “therapy”, “early release” and the like.
Bikes, bikers, biker babes, leather, chrome – they are all there.
And these guys ride they don’t just collect bikes as “trophies” to put in their garage. Jim and Mike made an extended road trip through the South into the Carolinas and Georgia – all the way down to the southern tip of Florida.
Bartender, Mike Ryan, was recently named “Bartender of the Month” in an article about the Asylum by the Washington Post.
