May 17 · Bryant’s Ice House · Katy, Texas
It was one of the biggest parties of the year for Houston bikers. For a small club Pair-A-Dice really knows how to throw a successful party. The weather was perfect for the hundreds of bikes – and it seemed – an equal number of pickup trucks.
In Houston there is no place better to have a big event than Bryant’s Ice House. Owner Gloria was as gracious and as georgeous as ever and as she and her staff worked hard to keep up with the thirst of the crowd.
Vendors galore including our personal favorite, C&S Leathers. The Dyna-Jet folk were there doing performance tests on bikes, there was a Hog that you could get your picture taken on (A real hog, stuffed. That porker must have weighed in at 500# before he became bacon) a variety of food vendors including the perennial Texas favorite – Bar-B-Cue.
The band kept the crowd entertained so there was no ‘downtime’ between the bike show and other special events.
It seemed that almost every club in town was represented – Bandidos, Amigos, High Rollers, Wind and Fire (a new club in Houston of Firefighters), Just An Attitude, and Gypsies as well as members of HOG Chapter #1.
Hats off to all the clubs that came out in support of Pair-A-Dice.
In the “never thought I would live to see the day” department, many bikers were surprised when “Mr. Harley”, himself, Jerry Couch, showed up on a BMW – marriage and a new baby must do strange things to people. Jerry’s explanation was that the BMW is made in Germany and doesn’t burn rice. Although we don’t quite get the logic of that it must be clear to Jerry. Jerry is a great biker friend so we hope he doesn’t mind a little kidding. When he turns out at an event on the Beemer wearing sandals and shorts it will be time to hold a benefit for him. After trying in vain to keep up with a harley-riding Jerry in the curves I don’t even want to be close when he does it on a BMW. Jerry, ride safe!
The party lasted well into the afternoon more and more bikers kept showing up. The ‘bare as you dare’ event topped off the scheduled events of the afternoon. The winner took home the $250 in prize money – the spectators enjoyed a fun show.
