BikerTrash.com/Gilbert’s New County Line Ice House “Survivor” Run

According to the weather forecasters we could expect a perfect fall day for the inaugural “Survivor” Run. A high temperature of around 80 and only a small chance of rain . . . it looked like this one would be perfect.

As we headed out towards ‘The line’ we could see a few clouds forming in the west – not to worry, though – the forecast was a good one.

First bike out was set for 11:00 and by that time there were about 20 bikes already there. A quick registration process and the first group were on the road . . . within 5 minutes we knew that the weather forecast had been wrong – very, very wrong!

During the day we were hit by many rain showers, fortunately they were all very quick and moved on out of the way rapidly. The participation in the ‘run was hurt by the weather but the total crowd turnout for the party was still good – by time the music got under way, the fish were fried and the last bikes were back it it was clear that this would be another fun party at the Gilbert’s.

Instead of the normal poker run this one was designed with a ‘survivor’ theme. All participants had been divided into 3 “gangs” and once they were back there was a process to randomly eliminate people until only 1 gang member was left standing. That person won 50% of the total pot, then all entries were put back in for 3 additional drawings of 30 and 20% of the pot and then one drawing (courtesy of Gilbert) for $25.

Although a last-minute glitch the previous night had caused us to have to drop one of the stops from the run, everything worked out well and, as they say, “a good time was had by all.”
